Rotary Club of Heliopolis Sporting

Description

As an affiliate body of Rotary International, the Rotary club of Heliopolis Sporting works in line of its areas of focus with special emphasis on the Egyptian community needs since 2004.
More than 100 million people are pushed into poverty each year because of medical costs. We aim to improve and expand access to low-cost and free health care in underdeveloped areas. Our members educate and mobilize communities to help prevent the spread of major diseases with the main focus on HCV and HIV/AIDS. Many of our projects ensure that medical training facilities are located where the workforce lives.
In the field of hepatitis, the Rotary club of Heliopolis Sporting supported testing, treating and educating 450,000 inhabitants in slum areas suffering from HCV.
We are implementing community-based outreach interventions for them and providing accessible and comprehensive and free treatment and care services for the diagnosed cases.
We collaborated with Cairo University for treating HCV among thalassemia patients. We collaborated with the National Research Centre for Alleviating and Managing Anaemia induced Therapy for Hepatitis C Patients in Seven Villages of Egypt through the Australian Embassy grant of 50,000 AUD since 2017 and ie extended till July 2019; 1) Screening and assessing the incidence of anemia and Hemoglobin concentration (Hb) among 2387 HCV treated cases (>18 years to 70 years) followed by confirming the anemic status.
2) Assessing the other risk factors for anemia as well as their nutritional habits
3) Training of the primary health care physicians, nurses and social works on nutritious food and a healthy lifestyle to implement their outreach activities
4) Training of the primary health care technicians and nurses to carry out checking for at-risk anemia and its complication and provision of individualized management through dietary advice
5) Equipping of the three main primary health care unit by Automated cell counter

Impact
1) Treated anemic cases
2) increased number of nutritionally balanced meals
3) Increased frequency of iron-rich foods eaten at the time of evaluation

The outcome of this project helped program planners to plan regimen and guidelines to overcome anemia induced therapy after treating chronic hepatitis C patients
